Is Jason Robertson's Scoring Surge Revenge For Team USA's Snub?

The night USA named its team for the 4 Nations Face-Off, Jason Robertson registered an assist for the Dallas Stars. And since then, he hasn't stopped producing.

Coincidence? Well, considering he had five goals and 11 points in 24 games before he was left off the team and six goals and 25 points in 19 games since, you might think that, like Michael Jordan, he took that personally.

Well, that's probably part of it, but there's much more to it. Robertson got off to such a dreadful start for a very good reason. While he was training over the summer, he felt some discomfort in his foot. That led to surgery to remove a cyst from that foot, which kept him from training through August and caused him to miss training camp.

Even though the first team all-star in 2023 was ready for the start of the season, it was a struggle to find his form.

"The first month was tough," Robertson said after registering an assist in the Stars' 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday night, "and the second month was tough. "I just think I'm feeling better and feeling like my normal self."

Stars coach Pete DeBoer said there's probably something to the fact that he's a proud player and has produced so well since not being excluded from USA's roster.

"Yeah, I think so," DeBoer said. "He's honest about his own game, and the first couple months of the season weren't up to standard, but he also had a real excuse."

For a team that has legitimate Stanley Cup aspirations, now is when they need Robertson scoring at his usual pace.
