Former Top Gear star James May will front a new cooking show, despite admitting “I can’t cook”.

The series titled Oh Cook is an Amazon Prime Video project and will see the presenter muddle his way through different recipes with the help sidekick Nikki.

A trailer for the series sees May say: “Hello, viewers. I’m James May and I can’t cook. Welcome to my cookery show.

“I learn, you learn, and then we are all fed by knowledge.”

He adds: “All those things you see being cooked on television are actually made by people like Nikki, not celebrity chefs.

“Celebrity chefs can’t actually cook.”

The TV show’s synopsis says: “James May is not a chef. But that’s the whole point: you don’t need to be a brilliant cook to make delicious food.

“Transporting us to the Far East, the Med, and the local pub – all from the comfort of a home economist’s kitchen – he’ll knock up delicious recipes that you can actually make yourself, with ingredients you can actually buy. And all without the usual television cooking format trickery.”

The series will coincide with May’s first ever cookbook, Oh Cook!: 60 Easy Recipes That Any Idiot Can Make.

The description of the book on Amazon reads: “Oh Cook! is a foolproof manual packed with more than 60 delicious recipes for even the most basic of home cooks.

“In this TV tie-in, James May, star of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour and Our Man in Japan, seeks to unpack the mysteries of cooking, unearthing the secrets behind the perfect poached egg, smooth custard and how to impress your friends and family with a cracking Sunday roast.

“Taking readers on a culinary tour (around his kitchen), James builds upon his cookery skills, recreating dishes from his travels as well as rediscovering some nostalgic childhood favourites along the way.”

James May: Oh Cook airs on 13 November on Amazon Prime Video, with the book being released on 29 October.
