Jake DeBrusk does adorable rinkside interview with father
Let’s face it: the on-ice interview between the benches that occurs before every NHL game generally accomplishes very little, and is a waste of time for both the people involved and those watching at home. Every once in a while something special happens, and a throwaway moment that is reserved for cliches produces something great.
Wednesday night was one of those special moments, with Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk getting interviewed by his dad, Sportsnet broadcaster Louie DeBrusk.
This may just be the best father/son interview out there. 💛🖤
Well done Louie and Jake DeBrusk (@JDebrusk)! pic.twitter.com/ionSRIdieW— NHL (@NHL) February 20, 2020
Just picture perfect father-son smack talk, with the elder DeBrusk opening the interview “it’s nice to have you home for a couple of days,” and the youngster responding with a smirking complaint about having to sit through his dad’s hunting stories.
After a legitimate question about the Bruins’ performance (yawn), Louie interrogates his son about overhearing some smack talk about the old man’s hair. Jake’s response of “you’ve got some tough flow, not going to lie,” is spot on.
Finally, Jake gets advice about keeping his feet moving to avoid having his broadcaster father call him out on national television.
Nobody keeps stats for this type of thing (that we know of), but it feels like a safe bet that this is the only time a pre-game interview ended with an “I love you” from the player being interviewed.
