Jadon Sancho hails support from Chelsea staff and teammates after Manchester United exit
Jadon Sancho appeared to take a dig at his former club Manchester United after making a strong start at Chelsea.
Sancho landed at Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day after United spent all summer trying to get rid of the Englishman for good.
Multiple clubs reportedly showed interest but it was Chelsea who finally managed to find a compromise with United, having agreed on a loan move with an obligation to turn the deal into a permanent one next summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million.
With a point to prove, the 24-year-old would have been eager to make an early impression, heading into his debut for the Blues. He managed to do exactly that on Saturday night.
Sancho was lively after coming off the bench in the second half and created Chelsea’s winning goal by finding Christopher Nkunku on the edge of the penalty area. The Frenchman received the ball on the turn and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Sancho was named man of the match for splitting Bournemouth’s defence wide open.
In his post-match interview, the versatile forward expressed his delight at making his Chelsea debut. He also seemingly took aim at United after shining light on the incredible reception and support he had received at his new club.
“I have to thank all the staff and my team-mates. The first day I came in, they made me feel welcome and I’m so happy to feel this comfortable,” he told Sky Sports (via Standard).
Sancho first exited Old Trafford after his public fallout with Erik ten Hag. Upon his return from Borussia Dortmund, the pair suggested they have repaired their relationship.
But the way Ten Hag overlooked him for United’s opening fixtures and Sancho’s recent comment suggest things were far from rosy behind the scenes at Carrington.
As far as United are concerned, their wingers also earned plenty of plaudits for their performance in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Southampton. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho got on the scoresheet and Amad Diallo created more chances than any other player on the pitch.
Sancho’s move to Chelsea may turn out to be beneficial for all parties involved after all.
