Manchester City will see defensive midfield prospect Jacob Wright leave the club on a loan agreement for the forthcoming 2024/25 season, according to reports.

The teenager is in a summer that comes off the back of a breakthrough campaign within Manchester City’s first-team squad, having made his senior debut as a second half substitute in an FA Cup third round meeting with Huddersfield Town in January 2024.

With Manchester City operating in a playing system that relies significantly on the exemplary performances of defensive midfield mainstay Rodrigo, the hunt for a successor and high-standard back-up to the Spaniard remains ongoing.

The pre-season tour of the United States has acted as a perfect opportunity for Pep Guardiola to assess what Manchester City have coming through their Academy ranks, with the likes of Nico O’Reilly and Mahamadou Susoho under the microscope.

But it is a third name that has now been deemed necessary for senior men’s football on a consistent basis next season, with a new report detailing the temporary agreement that has now been struck.

According to the information of Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury, Manchester City’s young midfielder Jacob Wright has now agreed a loan move to League One club Peterborough United ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It is detailed that the 18-year-old remains highly regarded within the Etihad Stadium, and perhaps reflected by his opportunities at first-team level last season, as well as his appearance on the club’s ongoing US tour this summer.

Football Insider further reveals that ‘several’ clubs have expressed an interest in taking Jacob Wright on loan from the Premier League champions during the ongoing summer window, but it is Peterborough who are now closing in on the defensive midfielder.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
