Jackson Blake Scores First Career Goal

Carolina Hurricanes rookie Jackson Blake is an NHL goal scorer.

It took just three games for the 21-year-old forward to get his first and what a moment it was.

With under 10 minutes to go in a one-goal game against the New Jersey Devils, Blake drove to the net front and redirected a Dmitry Orlov shot in past Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

"I was just hoping it would come," Blake said. "I didn't care when or how. I just was hoping that it would just go in for me and thankfully tonight it did."

Blake let all of the emotion as he pumped his fist and went down to one knee for his celly and linemate Eric Robinson quickly beelined to the net for the puck.

He couldn't stop the smile as he went to the bench, another yell in jubilation en route and was mobbed by his teammates as he made his way down the line.

"I didn't even know what I was doing honestly," Blake said.

"You know, I understand the emotions and excitement going through his body so I'll give him a pass," Jarvis said on Blake's celly. "But probably a good 7/10. I liked the yell and the little blowby the teammates."

Even coach Rod Brind'Amour put his arm around the rookie in congratulations.

"A lot of memories in that game for him,' Brind'Amour said. "You love to see that. You kind of forget sometimes how emotional the game can be and how much it means. I said after, 'Nobody's going to remember this game but he will,' and it was a great moment for him."
