Is Jack Draper playing in the Davis Cup? Start time and TV channel for Great Britain vs Finland

Great Britain look to book their place in the Davis Cup finals as they face three group-stage matches in Manchester this week.

Leon Smith’s side first go up against Finland, before turning their attention to Argentina and Canada, with the top two in Group D progressing to the knockout stages in Malaga later this year.

With Andy Murray retired and Cameron Norrie unavailable due to injury, Billy Harris has earned a call up to the British team for the first time.

Jack Draper is also in Manchester after his superb run at the US Open, while Dan Evans arrives with renewed confidence after finding some better form in New York.

Neal Skupski can be expected to be called upon for the doubles rubber, and the team is completed by Henry Patten, who won the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon earlier in the summer.

Is Jack Draper playing in the Davis Cup?

It remains to be seen what role Draper plays in this tie against Finland, particularly with matches against Argentina and Canada to come.

The 22-year-old had a gruelling semi-final at the US Open on Friday night in New York, during which he threw up several times, and it is an extremely tight turnaround as he now joins up with his British team-mates on home soil.

"After a short turnaround following the U.S. Open, Jack will be joining the team in Manchester on Tuesday ahead of the first match on Wednesday," a spokesperson for Draper said.

"Jack and his team are working hard to get fit and Leon will take all this into account when he makes his team selection."

Draper himself has insisted that it is important for him to be involved in the British team.

He said last week: “Even though the tennis schedule is full and is relentless — and honestly I’ve barely had a day off since the start of the year — I want to be there, I want to be competing, and I want to be playing for my country.”

Smith could opt to rest Draper against Finland, and hope the likes of Harris and Evans can get the job done, but the British No1 will almost certainly be involved against Argentina and Canada.
