J.T. Miller Saga With Canucks Reaches A Boiling Point, Giving Rangers Opportunity To Swoop In
The J.T. Miller's situation with the Vancouver Canucks is getting out of hand.
Vancouver has lost five out of its last six games while Miller is continuing to struggle as all eyes are on the Canucks.
The reported feud between Miller and Elias Pettersson seems to be impacting the team negatively and at this point, the Canaucks might be better off trading Miller.
“I think if the Canucks had their choice, they’d move J.T. Miller,” Canucks reporter Farhan Lalji said.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin has publicly stated that all options are on the table regarding a potential trade.
“When I saw the media avail of JT Miller yesterday (Friday), I went, 'ooooh... This has the aroma and the look of a guy who's had enough'... It can either go one of two ways: either GM Patrik Allvin brings Miller's camp a trade opportunity, or maybe JT just steps up and says, 'Hey, I've got a no-move clause, I've got 3 young kids and I'm going to protect my family, so you can drag me through the mud all you want, but I'm not waiving it until the offseason,’” Darren Dreger said.
The New York Rangers have been linked to Miller and reportedly discussed the idea of acquiring the 31-year-old from the Canucks.
There are obstacles Rangers general manager Chris Drury would have to overcome in order to get a deal done though.
“I do think the Rangers are interested, but I don’t know how easy that match is going to be,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. “If Vancouver wanted to do Zibanejad and again Zibanejad has a no-move clause too, so he’d have to want to do it, I think that could be done already. I’m not banking on that.
“The guy I could see Vancouver really liking is Schneider, but I’m not convinced at all the Ranger would want to do that, as a matter of fact, I’m convinced they wouldn’t just because I think they want to keep Schneider.”
If Miller really is disgruntled and the Canucks are open to moving on from the veteran forward, it presents the perfect opportunity for the Rangers.
Miller has played for New York in the past and the Rangers would likely be one of the teams he moves his no-move clause for.
With the situation in Vancouver getting uglier, Drury should certainly reignite conversations with the Canucks.
