Nicolo Barella says that Inter Milan are not “looking for revenge” in this weekend’s Serie A derby clash with AC Milan.

The 27-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He reacted to yesterday’s Champions League win over Monaco and looked ahead to the derby.

Inter take on Milan in the second league derby of the season on Sunday evening.

The Rossoneri have already beaten the Nerazzurri twice this season. Once in Serie A, and once in the Supercoppa Italiana.

Those two wins have come after a streak in which Inter beat Milan in six matches consecutively – across the league, the Supercoppa, and an historic Champions League semifinal tie.

As such, Inter will hardly be happy to have seen their city rivals shift the balance of power in the fixture back in their favour.

At the same time, though, Sunday’s match will also be crucial for other reasons.

Naturally, the derby is always a special fixture. But it is also a Serie A match, worth three points like any other.

And the Nerazzurri currently feel a great deal of pressure to pick up points.

Inter and Napoli are currently going head-to-head in a fierce Serie A title race.

Asked if Inter are looking for revenge in the derby on Sunday, Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella said that “It’s not a question of revenge.”

“We want to win the title,” he made clear. “So we need a positive result.”

Meanwhile, Barella also gave his thoughts on qualifying for the Champions League round of sixteen.

“Our goal was to go through directly,” the former Cagliari midfielder made clear. “And avoid the two extra matches.”

“Considering the fixture list, that’s always a positive.”

“The team took to the pitch with that goal in mind,” Nicolo Barella noted, furthermore. “We took advantage of the chances and match went our way, getting us the three points.”
