Italy Star Rates Inter Milan Season So Far ‘8/10’ & Insists ‘Never Had Any Doubts’ About Future

Defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that Inter Milan’s season so far rates around an “8/10.”

The Italian international spoke to Milan-based newspaper Libero in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Inter’s season is now well underway in both Serie A and the Champions League.

There is still a long way for the Nerazzurri to go in both competitions. But they have a sense of where they are in both – certainly in the hunt for silverware, but with a lot of work to do.

Meanwhile, next week Inter begin their Coppa Italia campaign for the season. They take on Udinese in the round of sixteen of the competition.

Then, next month, Inter will face Atalanta in the semifinal of the Supercoppa Italiana. And at the end of the campaign, there is the Club World Cup.

There is certainly no shortage of opportunities for Inter to win trophies and make it a memorable season.

So far, the team have shown that they are at right about the level they need to be to do so. However, that is certainly not to say that it’s been a season without slip-ups to date.

Alessandro Bastoni Rates Inter Milan Season “8/10”

As far as a rating for both his season individually and Inter’s collectively so far, Bastoni said “I would say 8/10 for both.”

“We started off a bit slowly. Because it no longer feels like there’s a gap between one season and another.”

“On a mental level it was not easy for us to recover,” Bastoni admitted. “That had an impact.”

“But we recovered well, and in the end I can say that if you’d ask me to sign for the situation we’re in between the league and Champions League right now in August, I’d have said yes.”

Meanwhile, Bastoni gave his thoughts on Inter’s Champions League loss to Bayer Leverkusen this week.

“A loss is never easy to digest,” the 25-year-old admitted. “But when I got home I thought about everything again.”

“You just need to look at where Bayern, City, or Real are to understand that we’re on the right path,” argued Inter defender Bastoni.

Bastoni said that winning is “our responsibility.”

“If you get everyone used to excellence, then you have to maintain that standard,” the Italian international argued.

“And beyond that, clearly we can’t win every match.”

As far as his staying at Inter despite transfer links away, Bastoni said that “There has been some interest in me.”

“But I’ve always given Inter top priority,” the 25-year-old made clear.

“There’s life beyond football. And my family is very happy here.”

“I play in an Inter side who are a top team that fights to win every competition,” Bastoni said.

“I’ve never had even half a thought about needing to change,” he said.

Differences Between Inzaghi & Conte As Coach

Meanwhile, Bastoni gave his thoughts on the best and worst aspects of Simone Inzaghi as Inter coach.

“A positive aspect,” the defender said. “He’s able to make everyone feel that they’re part of the group, and fundamental to the cause.”

“And as far as a flaw, I don’t know…” Bastoni went on. “Maybe initially we had some issues trying to understand his idea of football.”

“But that was more a difficulty on our part. We were coming from playing with Conte, where it’s completely different.”

And of the mind games from Napoli and former Inter coach Antonio Conte in the Serie A title race, Bastoni said “He’s a coach we know well.”

“We’re the favourites. And he tried to destabilize the atmosphere around us a bit.”

As for whether he’d rather win another Serie A title or reach another Champions League final, Bastoni declared “The Champions League final, absolutely!”

Meanwhile, Bastoni gave his thoughts on what Inter were lacking in the Champions League final against Manchester City in 2023. “Maybe a bit of luck,” the 25-year-old said.

“And a bit of self-awareness that we didn’t have yet. Now, we know we’re at that level.”

Meanwhile, Bastoni gave his insight on the criticism that some members of Inter’s squad receive. “From the outside it’s hard to make everyone understand how important everyone in the team is,” he said.

“But we know it perfectly.”

“I’ve stopped reading negative comments and anything from outside,” Bastoni said. “The important thing is that everyone within the team feels important.”
