From Italy: AS Roma plot move for Manchester City defender amid Premier League interest

Manchester City defender Issa Kabore has emerged as a transfer target for AS Roma despite rivalled interest from Premier League side Everton.

The 2001-born defender spent the entirety of the past season at Kenilworth Road, as Luton Town suffered relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship despite a valiant maiden Premier League campaign under Rob Edwards.

Kabore, who has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2020, featured in 24 Premier League games for Luton, registering two assists and playing at either right-back or right-wing for the Hatters.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a series of loan spells since signing for the City Football Academy as a teenager, spending time at Marseille, ES Troyes and KV Mechelen before moving to Bedfordshire for the 2023/24 season.

The Burkina Faso international is out of contract at Manchester City in 2025 and is expected to be sold by the Sky Blues this summer, amid the possibility for Kabore to leave for free at the end of next season.

Premier League side Everton have already considered making a move for the versatile defender, with Sean Dyche seeking to bolster his squad for the new campaign despite ongoing ownership uncertainty at Goodison Park.

The Toffees are preparing for their final campaign before moving to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, and have also been linked with Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The Merseyside club could miss out on the chance to sign the 23-year-old defender however, after Sport Witness relayed claims from Italian outlet Forza Roma, who report that AS Roma are considering a move for Kabore.

The Serie A side’s sporting director is claimed to be ‘keen’ to sign the full-back, with Manchester City looking to sell the defender for between €8 million and €10 million during the current summer window.

Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolf has previously tried to sign Kabore, and is reportedly spearheading Roma’s interest in the Manchester City player.
