Although not as big as the Ballon d’Or or the FIFA Best Galas, the Globe Soccer Awards event in Dubai has garnered quite the attention this year.

Several footballing legends of the past have attended the event, where several Barcelona players are competing for accolades.

Lamine Yamal has been nominated for the Best Men’s Player and Best Forward awards while Pau Cubarsi is competing for the Best Emerging Player award. Dani Olmo, too, has been nominated for the Best Midfielder Award.

Barcelona’s biggest representative, though, is Yamal. In fact, the Spaniard’s name has been on everyone’s lips at the gala, with several footballing legends of the past heaping praise on the youngster.

Del Piero and Capello on Yamal

Capello, a former manager, who has coached teams such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus, stated, “Lamine is the future of Barcelona and Spanish football.”

Del Piero, meanwhile, also praised Yamal for his talent while revealing that his kids even took pictures with the Barcelona forward.

“I saw Lamine Yamal and we greeted each other and got to know each other and it’s nice to see such a young talent express himself in this way. It was a pleasure to meet his family. He took pictures with my children,” he revealed (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“You can’t tell a 17-year-old anything but to keep having fun and keeping us entertained,” the Italian concluded.
