Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to miss Paris Saint-Germain’s game against Brest, but it is because his partner just gave birth to their son.

L’Equipe noted that the goalkeeper was not at the training centre today and asked coach Luis Enrique about his absence during a press conference.

“The big news is the birth of Leo. An extra Parisian! We gave him the day off to enjoy the moment. As to whether he will start tomorrow, I prefer to tell my players first who will start and who will be on the bench.”

Congratulations are therefore in order for the 25-year-old, who becomes a father for the first time just days after winning back-to-back Nations League matches for Italy, and partner Alessia.

Donnarumma confident of role at PSG

While Donnarumma had been sharing the gloves at PSG during the first few years of his tenure, this is the first season where he has been the undoubted first choice.

He has also been promoted to the role of vice-captain, one of several behind Marquinhos.

Tomorrow’s Ligue 1 match against Brest could therefore be the debut for summer signing Matvey Safonov, who cost €20m to sign from Krasnodar and will be eager to prove himself a genuine challenger to the Italian.
