Italian Journalist On Argentina U20 Starlet: “Inter Milan Believe In Him, Inzaghi Could Deploy Him In A New Role”

Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes all signs suggest Inter Milan have high hopes for their new defender Tomas Palacios.

The 21-year-old was the fourth and last summer signing to join Simone Inzaghi’s first team.

The Nerazzurri decided to add a left-footed defender to their ranks following Tajon Buchanan’s injury which saw Carlos Augusto shifted back to the wingback role, leaving Alessandro Bastoni without a clear understudy.

In the end, they set their sights on the Argentine who was enjoying his breakthrough campaign with Independiente Rivadavia.

The Italian champions splashed around 10 million euros to secure the young man’s services.

So as Biasin notes, the cash-strapped Nerazzurri wouldn’t have spent this amount if they didn’t truly have faith in the player.

“Since millions don’t rain at Appiano Gentile, spending 10 million on a young kid means the club believes in him,” said the journalist in his interview with Telelombardia via FcInter1908.

“Palacios could thus follow the same path as Yann Bisseck.”

Moreover, Biasin points out that Inzaghi has already hinted he could use Palacios at the heart of the backline.

“By the way, Inzaghi told us something important about Palacios the other day. He mentioned he can also play as a central defender.”

“This is an important detail because Inter have players who are slightly old in this particular position.

“So I don’t know when Palacios will be ready to play, but Inter certainly believe in him.”

Inzaghi is currently relying on 36-year-old Francesco Acerbi and 32-year-old Stefan de Vrij in the centre-back role.

Both veterans are currently running on expiring deals, and many expect at least one of them to depart at the end of the season.
