Islanders Prospects Danny Nelson & Cole Eiserman Win Gold With Team USA At 2025 World Junior Championship

New York Islanders prospects Danny Nelson and Cole Eiserman are World Junior Hockey Champions. They, along with the rest of Team USA, defeated Finland 4-3 in overtime on Sunday night.

Nashville Predators prospect Teddy Stiga scored the game-winner on a breakaway:

Eiserman, who shined on the power play, finished the tournament with three goals and four assists in seven total games. He was the Islanders' first-round pick in 2024 (20th overall).

He played limited minutes as the 13th forward throughout the last few games, including the gold medal game.

Nelson scored four goals and added two assists in those same seven games while donning the "A" for the Americans. He was selected 49th overall by the Islanders in 2023.

He also played for Team USA on last year's gold-winning team. In an expanded role, he flourished with time on the power-play, penalty kill, and top-six. Last year, Nelson was limited to the fourth line and penalty-killing spots.

The victory secures the first back-to-back gold medals for Team USA in World Juniors History.

Jesse Nurmi, another Islanders prospect, was on the losing side, earning a silver medal with Team Finland. Nurmi was selected in the fourth round in 2023 by the Islanders.

In seven games for Team Finland, Nurmi scored two goals and recorded two assists for four points.

As the Islanders continue their season, these three prospects wrap up a successful tournament and will head back to college and the OHL.

Next year's World Junior Championship returns to the United States, as it will take place in Minnesota in late December.
