Islanders Erase Two-Goal Deficit In Third But Fall To Edmonton 4-3 In Overtime
The New York Islanders extended their point streak to four games but did so in a losing effort after falling to the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime.
Leon Draisaitl roofed one glove side on Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin at 1:52 of overtime after the trio of Bo Horvat, Simon Holmstrom, and Ryan Pulock got their energy wiped after a long shift:

Sorokin made 39 saves on 43 shots, keeping the Islanders close and ultimately allowing them to earn a point.
Stuart Skinner stopped 19 of 22.
Here's how it happened:
Both teams had a chance on the power play in the first period but to no success as the Islanders and Oilers played to a scoreless first 20 minutes.
Edmonton had the better chances, both five-on-five and man-advantage, in the first period. However, the Islanders were able to create some good looks of their own but did not take great shots.
A messy final 30 seconds of the first led to a flurry of Oiler chances where Sorokin stood tall, shutting out McDavid and Draisaitl. In the chaos, Scott Mayfield took a penalty that allowed Edmonton to start the second period on the PP.
36 seconds into period two, Draisaitl made the Islanders pay. McDavid fed Draisaitl, who buried his patented one-timer from the right faceoff dot past Sorokin to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead:

Evan Bouchard tallied the secondary assist.
The Oilers had the bulk of the chances but were unable to add to their lead. With 4:02 to go in the middle frame the Islanders tied it up.
After forcing a turnover, Brock Nelson played the puck up to Max Tsyplakov, who skated into the wide-open slot before faking a shot, sliding it left to Kyle Palmieri, who fired it past Skinner:

Tsyplakov did an incredible job making a move and faking out Skinner. He's up to 10 points on the season now, the fourth rookie to reach that mark so far this year (2 goals, 8 assists).
The Islanders did not have a great second period but finished strong after the goal with more sound defensive play and more offensive chances. After two periods, the score was even at one.
Evan Bouchard broke the tie just 57 seconds into the third period. A wild scrum in the crease did not result in a goal for the Oilers, but Bouchard, seconds after, wristed the puck home:

Ekholm and McDavid assisted the goal that gave the Oilers the 2-1 lead.
Then, after Oliver Wahlstrom got his legs taken out, McDavid roofed a backhand past Sorokin from the slot to give the Oilers a 3-1 lead at 10:19 of the third:

With the Islanders needing an answer, they got one from Anders Lee. He jumped on a rebound after a Ryan Pulock shot at 12:54 of the third to make it a 3-2 game:

With under three minutes to play, the Islanders were looking for the equalizer, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau found it after finding Lee in front to tie the game at 3-3 at 17:20 of the third:

Palmieri earned the secondary assist.
This one would need overtime, where Draisaitl did his thing to snag the second point for Edmonton.
