Marcus Hogberg made his Islanders debut, playing well in goal for the third period. He stopped 11 shots in the final 20 minutes.

Joey Daccord made 27 saves on 29 Islander shots for the win.

The Kraken came out flying and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Tye Kartye made a tremendous deflection 2:48 into the game. Dunn took the initial shot that was tipped to the glove side of a sliding Sorokin.

The secondary assist went to Adam Larsson.

Over the course of the first period, the Islanders began to find their game. They could not find the back of the net, however, with a low shot total.

Seattle gained momentum back when Scott Mayfield lifted the puck over the glass for a delay-of-game penalty with five minutes to go in the first period.

The Islanders did a good job keeping the Kraken to the outside for most of the man advantage, but a tired group of penalty-killers got stuck out for the entire kill, leading to a Seattle goal.

Oliver Bjorkstrand was left alone in the middle of the Islanders' box and made a nifty tip past Sorokin with 3:02 to go. Dunn earned his second assist of the game for making the initial shot once again, with Chandler Stephenson nabbing the secondary.

The first period came to a close with the Islanders outshooting the Kraken 9-8. Seattle led after the first 20 minutes 2-0 from their two deflected goals.

Seattle came out of the dressing room for the second period as well. They cycled the puck around the offensive zone before Dunn buried a rocket slapshot through a screen for his third point of the night to make the score 3-0.

Larsson and Matty Beniers assisted on the goal, finishing a play that spent a long time in the Islanders' zone.

Both teams had a power play chance in the middle portion of the second period. The Islanders did not score, whereas the Kraken did with 20 seconds to go on their power play.

Shane Wright snapped the puck past a once-again screened Sorokin with 6:55 left in the second stanza to give Seattle a 4-0 lead. Brandon Montour was credited with the lone assist.

The Islanders earned a four-minute power play when Casey Cizikas was high-sticked with 2:56 left in the second. New York did not score and took a minute and four seconds of PP time into the third.

The second period concluded with the Kraken leading 4-0. The Islanders outshot Seattle in the second 6-5.

Hogberg entered the game for the Islanders to start the third. New York did not score on the remaining power play time.

Noah Dobson got the Islanders on the board with 8:03 to go in the game. Simon Holmstrom and Noah Dobson assisted to make it 4-1.

The goal was Dobson's first past a goaltender this season. His only other tally was an empty-netter in Vancouver on Nov. 14.

Max Tsyplakov cut the Kraken's lead in half for the Islanders, making it 4-2 with 4:23 to go in the game.

Ryan Pulock was credited with the secondary assist, the 200th point of this NHL career. Bo Horvat had the secondary assist:

Jaden Schwartz scored an empty net goal, assisted by Brandon Tanev, to give the Kraken a 5-2 lead and put the game on ice with 2:47 to go.

The Islanders would fall to the Kraken by that 5-2 score.

The Islanders return to the ice Saturday, as they host the Carolina Hurricanes at UBS Arena at 5 PM.
