Islanders Defeat Devils 4-2; Sheldon Keefe Drops His Preseason Debut
NEWARK, N.J. -- The New York Islanders went into New Jersey and beat the Devils and Sheldon Keefe 4-2 in their first preseason game.
Here's how it happened:
While the Islanders were on the penalty kill -- it was our first look at their new system, a wedge flush under Tommy Albelin -- they allowed the opening goal at 2:18 of the first period.
Maxim Tsyplakov turned the puck over to Jesper Bratt inside the left dot, who found Nico Hischier in the low slot before the Devils captain wired the puck high blocker side:

The Islanders were outshot 11-8 in the first period, with goaltender Jacob Markstrom robbing Simon Holmstrom and Jean-Gabrile Pageau.
Samuel Bolduc also rang the post on a one-timer.
Islanders starter Marcus Hogberg looked solid, something to keep an eye on as Ilya Sorokin continues to miss training camp.
After a strong rush and play by Oliver Wahlstrom, Anders Lee sniped Markstrom glove side from the high slot to tie the game at 1-1 at 8:16 of the second:
