Islanders Brock Nelson & The 'Worst Kept Secret In Hockey'
During Tuesday night's New York Islanders game against the Colorado Avalanche on ESPN+, play-by-play man John Buccigross made the following statement:
"Brock Nelson, picked by Bill Guerin (for 4 Nations Face-off). Everyone thinks Nelson is going to sign with Minnesota. It's like the worse kept secret in hockey that he'll be with the Wild next year"
If the Islanders, winners of five straight, continue their winning ways, there's a possibility that general manager Lou Lamoriello holds on to his pending unrestricted free agent.
However, if you buy Buccigross's statement, which fits the rumors that have circulated this entire season about Nelson returning home, Lamoriello has no choice but to move Nelson.
He's too good to lose for nothing.
However, just because Minnesota may be his landing spot this summer, that doesn't mean the Islanders have to make a trade with Guerin.
The Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars, the Winnipeg Jets, the Boston Bruins, the Carolina Hurricanes, and even the Columbus Blue Jackets could use a rental center like Nelson for thier playoff push or playoff aspirations.
Do you buy what Buccigross is selling?
A potential Nelson move is unlikely to be made until around the NHL Trade Deadline on March 7th. Things will certainly heat up during the NHL's Four Nations Face-Off break.
