Newcastle United returned to winning ways at the weekend, as they thrashed Leicester City 4-0 in the Premier League.

The Magpies produced an excellent display at St James’ Park, with goals from Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and a brace from Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will look to continue their momentum when they host Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday.

The English boss will likely feature his strongest team possible, aiming to book a place in the final four of the domestic competition.

Predicted Newcastle United XI vs Brentford

Nick Pope has been ruled out for a month after sustaining a knee injury during the 4-2 defeat at Brentford. Martin Dúbravka was in goal against Leicester, and the 35-year-old performed impressively to deserve another start.

In front of the goalkeeper, Howe is expected to keep the same backline of Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall. Lloyd Kelly started in the previous two rounds and produced strong displays, but there looks to be no place for him in Wednesday’s game.

Joelinton picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Leicester, resulting in a one-game ban. But that only applies to the Premier League and he will still be able to play in the Carabao Cup, alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Jacob Murphy struck twice against the Foxes, and he will be hoping for a similar impact in the next cup match. He will join the in-form Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack.
