Ipswich vs Chelsea – Team News: Injured star returns to squad with rotated front line
Chelsea face Ipswich at Portman Road in just under an hour, and the teams are in!
We all expected major changes from Enzo Maresca after a busy Christmas period, and boy did we get them.
Starting in goal, Filip Jorgensen is rewarded with his second start of the season, with Robert Sanchez rested.
The back four looks like it has Axel Disasi at right back, Tosin Adarabioyo in the middle with Levi Colwill, and then Marc Cucurella on the left. Malo Gusto drops to the bench for a rest. We have to hope that Disasi and Cucurella can provide enough going forward to help the team to score after one goal in the last two games.
Ahead of them, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez form a familiar pivot with Cole Palmer. That trio will be tired, but just have to try and create a lead and then manage the game.
They should be helped by a really fresh front three – Noni Madueke starts on the right wing after being dropped from the squad for the game against Fulham after poor training performances – at least that’s what we assume.
Then Joao Felix gets a first start in the league since late November, hoping to pick up where he left off against Leicester in that game – impressing both in attack and in defending with great vigour.
Christopher Nkunku has been starved of Premier League action all season, but with Nicolas Jackson rested tonight the Frenchman gets his chance. The idea of his beautiful feet combining with Felix in the final third is really tempting – but things don’t always work out how you expect, especially against fearsome opposition fighting for their lives.
Reece James is fit enough to return to the bench, pleasingly.
