Inter coach Simone Inzaghi confirms Argentinean defender Tomas Palacios will leave on loan in January but urges the team to focus on the pitch and take the ‘last step’ in the Champions League.

Inter host Monaco at San Siro tomorrow. The Nerazzurri are in the top eight and aim to qualify for the Round of 16.

“We can’t do any counting; we’ve had an extraordinary path; now we just need the last step,” Inzaghi said at a press conference, as quoted by Gazzetta.

Francesco Acerbi and Hakan Calhanoglu are still unavailable, while Mehdi Taremi will be eligible despite training separately over the last few days.

“I have five strikers and everyone can play with everyone,” said Inzaghi. Monaco are an excellent team. I met Hutter when I was at Lazio and he was the Eintracht coach. We haven’t scored too many goals in the Champions League, but we’ve only conceded once in seven games.”

Yann Bisseck could play as a central defender in Inter’s three-man defence tomorrow.

“He has proved to be an excellent player, and he can play there if we need him,” confirmed Inzaghi.

“We are waiting for Acerbi and we have de Vrij, but he’s also doing well.”

Inzaghi confirmed that Argentinean defender Palacios would leave on loan. Monza are currently in talks with the 21-year-old.

“I know there is a negotiation. He’s improving, and he’s working well,” said Inzaghi.

“These months with us helped him, and he has many requests because many have understood his qualities. He’ll get playing time for four months, but I am focused on the pitch. Over the last few months, I’ve had too many setbacks that prevented me from doing what I wanted. Hopefully, Acerbi and Calhanoglu will return for the derby on Sunday, so let’s see.”

Inter will meet city rivals Milan in Serie A on Sunday, three days after the final league phase game of the Champions League.

Inzaghi’s Inter sit 4th in the Champions League table with 16 points in seven games.
