Inter vs Monaco: our complete guide to the match
Inter will host Monaco on Wednesday at 21:00 CET at San Siro for the last day of the UEFA Champions League League Phase. The Nerazzurri, on the strength of their 16 points from the first seven matches, are already guaranteed a place in the top 24 and thus entry to the knockout round. With a draw, however, direct qualification to the round of 16 would be on the cards. Monaco collected 13 points in their first seven matches.
INTER, THE PRE-MATCH STATS
Inter come into the Champions League match on the back of a 12-home-games unbeaten run: 10 wins and two draws, the longest unbeaten run at home in the Champions Cup/Champions League since the period between September 1963 and September 2002 (undefeated in the first 28 home games).
Inzaghi's team has only conceded one goal in the entire Champions League (against Leverkusen): they have not conceded a goal in their last five home matches in the Champions League.
Lautaro Martínez scored 14 goals in the Champions League with Inter Milano, equalling Adriano as the Nerazzurri's top scorer in the tournament. If including the Champions Cup, only Sandro Mazzola (17) has scored more goals in Europe's top competition with Inter.
Yann Sommer has kept his goal unbeaten in six of the seven matches in this edition of the Champions League. The only Inter goalkeeper to record more clean sheets in a single season between the Champions Cup and the Champions League was André Onana (eight in 13 appearances in 2022-23).
MONACO'S RECENT FORM
Adi Hütter's Monaco did not start 2025 in the best of ways, but found two big victories in their last two matches in the Champions League and Ligue1, against Aston Villa and Rennes.
The Monegasque team opened January with a defeat in the French Super Cup against PSG, then an elimination in the French Cup on penalties, in between a draw and a defeat in the league. Currently, the Ligue 1 team is in third place in the standings, 13 points behind PSG: after 19 rounds, their tally stands at 34 points, with 10 wins, four draws and five defeats, 32 goals scored and 22 conceded.
In the Champions League, Monaco's path has been very positive: Hütter's team is in tenth place with 13 points and has already qualified for the playoff phase of the competition. Their path in Europe has seen victories over Barcelona (the Catalans' only defeat in seven matches), Red Star, Bologna and Aston Villa. The 13 points came from 13 goals scored (and 10 conceded). Monaco had an even goal-scoring distribution throughout the season: the top scorer is Eliesse Ben Seghir, 7 goals, followed by Embolo and Akliouche with 5. Ben Seghir has played in all seven of Monaco's matches in the Champions League (six of them as a starter). The only under-20 to have played more minutes than Ben Seghir for the Monaco club in a single Champions League season was Kylian Mbappé in 2016/2017. Monaco have also scored the most goals with defenders this Champions League season: four (two from Wilfried Singo, one from Thilo Kehrer and one from Mohammed Salisu).
The 4-2-3-1 is the formation most often used by Monaco with Zakaria and Camara in midfield and three men, Akliouche, Minamino and Ben Seghir (or Golovin), supporting Embolo. Singo, Ilenikhena and Balogun will be absent due to injury, while Zakaria's readiness is in doubt and could be replaced by Magassa.
