INTER v AC MILAN: MATCH PREVIEW

It's almost time for AC Milan v Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana final: kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 CET this evening at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, the stadium which staged the Rossoneri’s semi-final victory over Juventus. Coach Sérgio Conceição’s Rossoneri will be up against Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, who have won the last three editions of the competition. Here is our Match Preview ahead of the big clash.

LATEST FROM MILANELLO
AC Milan are heading into tonight’s showdown with a bit more certainty after coming from behind to beat Juventus. That win has given the Rossoneri a big confidence boost, but those who are in a less-than-ideal condition still need to be managed. Indeed, there are doubts about Rafael Leão and Matteo Gabbia, although Ruben Loftus-Cheek could make a return. As was the case for the semi-final on Friday, Chukwueze, Okafor and Florenzi will once again be unavailable. There’s plenty of determination and optimism within the Rossoneri ranks, with Coach Conceição’s side ready to give their all in this important Supercoppa final.

This is what Coach Conceição, who is still struggling with fever, had to say on the eve of the game: "We've taken a half step, now to do the other half. The basis has to be hunger for victory. We hope it goes well. We have had a day less to rest and 4/5 players who aren't fully fit, but we also have confidence because good things are often hidden in hard times."

LATEST FROM INTER
Inter are coming into this Supercoppa final on the back of some very positive results. The Nerazzurri qualified for the final by beating Atalanta 2-0 in a match where they were solid and posted a big threat throughout. In Serie A, Inzaghi’s men recently defeated Cagliari 3-0 to consolidate their position in the table. Inter are currently in excellent form and conceding very few goals, but they will have to make do without the injured Acerbi and Pavard. Furthermore, Thuram and Correa are both doubts for this evening’s clash.

Simone Inzaghi also held a pre-match press conference: “We'll need to try and produce a big performance to win the trophy. Conceição is well prepared, and his teams are direct and fast and never give up, as we saw against Juventus."

PRE-MATCH STATS

  • Inter and AC Milan will be facing each other for just the third time in the Supercoppa Italiana: the last two meetings saw one win apiece (2-1 to the Rossoneri in the 2011 edition and 3-0 to the Nerazzurri in the 2022 Supercoppa).

  • AC Milan are unbeaten in twelve of their last 13 matches in all competitions (W8, D4): their only defeat came against Atalanta on 6 December after losing three of their previous five fixtures (W2).

  • Christian Pulisic (nine goals in 21 matches) is on the verge of reaching double figures for the second consecutive season for AC Milan in all competitions (15 goals in 50 games in 2023/24).
