Inter Pursuit of Roma Castaway Handed Decisive Boost
Roma outcast Nicola Zalewski could join reigning Scudetto holders Inter in the final days of the January transfer window. According to Calciomercato, French giants Marseille tried to hijack Inter’s quest to land the Pole yesterday.
However, Zalewski reportedly turned down the Ligue 1 side’s advances as he prefers to stay in Serie A and link up with Inter. His contract at the Stadio Olimpico runs out at the end of the season. Therefore, Roma cannot influence his decision.
The 23-year-old has fallen out of favor in the capital after refusing to pledge his long-term future to the club. Indeed, Zalewski tried to force his transfer to Galatasaray in September, only to see the deal collapse at the 11th hour. His career in Rome reached the point of no return at that moment.
Meanwhile, Inter misfit Tajon Buchanan is on the verge of joining Villarreal on loan with an option to buy. After failing to settle in at Giuseppe Meazza, the Canadian wingback is ready to pack his bags. The Nerazzurri will receive €1 million for a short-term loan.
But Villarreal can purchase the 25-year-old permanently in the summer for a reported fee of €13m. Buchanan’s imminent exit leaves Inter short-handed on the left flank. As such, Simone Inzaghi is keen to lure Zalewski to Lombardy.
With the player’s consent in the bag, Inter should be confident about getting the deal over the line. Yet, if negotiations with Roma go sideways, they could try to bring Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi back to the club.
