Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez could return straight to the starting lineup in this evening’s contest against Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri will host their Lombardian neighbors at San Siro in one of the biggest clashes of Serie A Round 3.

Simone Inzaghi’s men have thus far collected four points from a possible six, but this will be their biggest test of the season to date.

So who will take the field for the Italian champions this evening?

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Martinez is the favorite to start alongside Marcus Thuram in attack.

The club captain missed the previous encounter against Lecce due to muscle fatigue. However, he managed to overcome this condition to place himself at Inzaghi’s disposal.

Inzaghi is thus inclined to thrust the Argentine from the get-go, leaving Mehdi Taremi on the bench. The latter made his full debut for the club last weekend against Lecce.

The source also tips Carlos Augusto to get the nod on the left flank at the expense of Federico Dimarco.

On the opposite side, Matteo Darmian will maintain his starting berth, warding off competition from Denzel Dumfries who remains in a less-than-ideal physical condition.

The pink newspaper reveals that Inzaghi has been testing Piotr Zielinski in the middle of the park. However, Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains the favorite to land a spot alongside Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Finally, the usual suspects should start at the back. Francesco Acerbi will operate in between Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni, while Yann Sommer will be guarding the goal.

PROBABLE INTER XI (3-5-2):  Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Thuram, Lautaro.
