Inter Milan ace Piotr Zielinski has lauded the strength of Simone Inzaghi’s midfield options in the build-up to the Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade.

During a pre-match interview with Inter TV, as reported by FCInterNews, the Poland international emphasized the potential of Inter’s star-studded midfield line-up.

Zielinski returns to the starting XI for the first time since the opening Champions League round.

He was impressive against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Yet, a lack of match fitness restricted him to only 66 minutes of play.

That’s still more than he has amassed after six Serie A rounds this season.

After overcoming an injury that kept him on the sidelines for over a month, Zielinski has racked up 55 minutes of top-flight action in 2024/25.

However, there’s no doubt Inter will rely on the 30-year-old more heavily in the coming weeks.

Nicolo Barella’s absence due to a thigh problem will likely bolster the Polish star’s first-team prospects.

“Inter’s midfield is really strong, everyone has very high quality,” he said. “There is competition, and this is good for the whole team.”

Thrilled to be handed only his second start in the Nerazzurri shirt, Zielinski highlights how vital it is for Inter to beat Red Star tonight.

“I’m certainly happy to start,” he continued. “We hope to play a great game and bring home the three points that will be fundamental if we want to move forward in the competition.

“In these matches, the approach is fundamental, we know that you can’t go wrong.

“Then we are in the Champions League, and we want to show everyone our greatness.”

After a valuable point in Manchester, Inter cannot afford to drop the ball against the perennial Serbian champions.

Anything other than three points would be hugely upsetting for the reigning Scudetto holders.
