Inter Milan Keen On Signing Atalanta Serie A Breakout Star This Summer
Inter Milan are keen to try and sign Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi this summer.
This according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb. They report that La Dea would expect a very high fee for the 24-year-old however.
Inter are still considering what their future in goal will look like.
Yann Sommer is currently the first-choice option between the posts for the Nerazzurri. And he has held down that role this season.
Sommer’s performance against Bologna in Serie A underlined his continued importance for Inter.
However, the Swiss former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper will turn 37 next season.
Therefore, there is doubt as to whether or not Sommer can be the starter for much longer. Inter’s plan would be to have a similar situation to Andre Onana taking over from Samir Handanovic gradually.
Inter Keen To Sign Atalanta Keeper Marco Carnesecchi
Meanwhile, Inter signed goalkeeper Josep Martinez from Genoa last summer.
The Spaniard is the player who the Nerazzurri have earmarked to be the long-term successor to Sommer.
However, so far Martinez has hardly proven that he will be able to inherit Sommer’s gloves.
Therefore, Inter could decide to sign a young keeper as the long-term replacement for Sommer next summer.
And according to TMW, one of the Nerazzurri’s top targets in that respect would be Atalanta keeper Carnesecchi.
The 24-year-old has been one of the outstanding keepers in Serie A this season. His form in goal has been a key part of Atalanta maintaining their place in the title race.
And then considering Carnesecchi’s age, he would certainly be an ideal profile for Inter’s future.
However, Carnesecchi certainly will not come cheap. Atalanta are well aware of the Italian international’s value and will hold out for a very high fee if they are to sell him next summer.
Therefore, that would certainly be a major obstacle as far as Inter moving for Carnesecchi goes.
