Inter Milan & Italy Star Reacts To Wild 2-2 Serie A Draw Vs Genoa: ‘It’s The First Match Of The Season, Let’s Not Overreact’

Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that the Nerazzurri’s 2-2 opening day draw with Genoa shouldn’t be blown out of proportion.

The 25-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. He stressed that the season is only just beginning.

Inter did not start the season off with three points as they’d have wanted to.

The Nerazzurri looked as though they were heading for a victory when Marcus Thuram scored their and his second goal in the 84th minute.

Inter had to come back from Genoa taking the lead in the first half.

This looked like it was going to be a big result to open up Inter’s Serie A title defense. They had not won away to Genoa since 2020.

However, the match proved to have a sting in the tail.

Inter defender Yann Bisseck was guilty of handling the ball in his own penalty area in stoppage time.

After a VAR check, referee Ermanno Feliciani awarded Genoa a penalty.

Inter keeper Yann Sommer saved the initial effort from Grifone midfielder Junior Messias. However, the Brazilian was able to turn in the followup to earn a point for his side.

Inter Defender Alessandro Bastoni: “Let’s Not Overreact” To Inter Draw Vs Genoa

Inter defender Bastoni commented after the match, “We would’ve been happier with a win but we didn’t get it.”

“But there are still 37 matches left to go,” the Italian international noted.

“Let’s not overreact and blow things out of proportion,” Bastoni emphasized.

“We’re happy with how we played. We allowed things that we don’t normally, but there are no problems.”

Bastoni argued that “I don’t remember any shots on our goal.”

“Clearly we conceded two goals from errors, which affect a match on a psychological level.”

“Mentally, it’s not always easy to play in it. Then, on a physical level a lot of us had played in the Euros and the Copa America.”

“After twenty days of vacation we got right back to work without much time to recover,” Bastoni noted.

“It’s still the first match of the season. Let’s not overreact.”
