Inter Milan & Italy Legend Predicts Supercoppa Italiana Final Showdown Vs AC Milan Will Be ‘A Beautiful Match’
Legendary former Nerazzurri and Italy defender Marco Materazzi feels that the Supercoppa Italiana final between Inter Milan and AC Milan will be “a beautiful match.”
The 2006 World Cup winner spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of the match, via FCInterNews.
Inter take on AC Milan in the Supercoppa final this evening.
This is the second time in three years that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri fight for the trophy.
Inter won the last meeting with their city rivals in this competition. They secured an emphatic 3-0 victory to kick off a run of six straight wins in the derby.
On the other hand, Milan won the most recent derby.
The Rossoneri finally ended the sequence of losses to Inter with a convincing 2-1 win in the league earlier this season.
Materazzi Predicts “A Beautiful Match” In Inter Vs AC Milan Supercoppa Italiana Final
Former Inter and Italy defender Materazzi noted that “There’s a trophy up for grabs, we hope to lift it.”
“You know who the favourite is…” he continued.
“I’m not just saying that based on faith, but also because Inter have shown over the last few years that, in my opinion, they are the team with the most quality.”
“But then, it’s a one-off match,” noted Materazzi.
“Milan have changed their coach.”
“It will be a beautiful match, and may the strongest team win,” Materazzi said.
The former defender went on that “After the [Champions League] final in Istanbul, Inter gained such mental confidence that they can just go out on the pitch knowing they’re the strongest.”
“Solidity is important,” Materazzi went on. “At the start of the season in the league, they were conceding too many goals.”
“Then, after the match against Juventus, where they mostly deserved to win, they looked at each other and from that point on it’s been almost nothing but clean sheets.”
Materazzi argued that Inter “got back on track.”
“But then, a final is always a final,” he said of today’s clash with Milan.
As far as the prospect of Lautaro Martinez scoring against the Rossoneri, Materazzi said that “I hope our captain can have the satisfaction of scoring in the final and lifting another trophy.”
