Inter Milan Hot Favourites To Retain Serie A Title – But Congested Fixture List Could Be Their Undoing

Inter Milan go into next Serie A season as the undoubted favourites, but the fixture list could pose a problem for them.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

No team has won the Serie A title twice in a row since Juventus in the 2019-20 season.

Since then, Inter, AC Milan, Napoli, and then Inter again have won the Scudetto.

But heading into next season, the Nerazzurri appear to be in a very strong position to do so.

Inter will know full well not to take for granted that they can transfer last season’s dominant form to next campaign. Napoli’s shocking fall-off last time around certainly demonstrated that.

But the Nerazzurri have consistency and continuity that the Partenopei did not.

Inter are sticking with the same coach in the form of Simone Inzaghi. And the same group of players.

Furthermore, summer reinforcements such as Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez could mean that Inter’s squad is even stronger next season, from the perspective of depth.

Inter Hot Favourites In Serie A – But Fixture Congestion Could Be Problematic

Chasing Inter will be the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, and Atalanta.

All of the Bianconeri, the Rossoneri, and the Partenopei have changed coaches this season.

The arrivals of Thiago Motta, Paulo Fonseca, and Antonio Conte have certainly raised expectations. As have some ambitious summer transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Europa League champions Atalanta can rely on the stability of Gian Piero Gasperini as coach.

But in the view of the Gazzetta, it may not be any of these teams’ improvements that pose the biggest threat to Inter’s title.

Rather, the Nerazzurri face the unknown of a fixture list that is more packed than ever,

The expansion of the Champions League format will put enormous strain on the Nerazzurri’s squad.

Therefore, Inter will have to stay switched on and manage their energy very well if they wish to hold off the chasing pack.
