Inter Milan Goalkeeper Warns AC Milan Star Ahead Of Derby Clash: “I’ll Be Prepared For Penalties”

Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer reveals he’ll be prepared to face AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic from the spot in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

The two rivals will clash heads at San Siro in the fifth round of the season.

The Nerazzurri will be looking to confirm their dominance in this fixture which they established over the past few years.

On the other hand, the Rossoneri are still trying to find their footing under the guidance of their new manager Paulo Fonseca.

In an interview with CBS Sports, the Switzerland international revealed some of his pre-match routines.

He insists the goalkeeper should always be aware of the shooting techniques of the opposition forwards.

“It’s very important to know how I have to react to what they do,” said Sommer (via FcInterNews).

“You can’t know the situation that will ensue in the next match, though. Obviously, it’s important to know the opponents and their preferences. But of course, I’ll focus on our own game.

The former Bayern Munich goalkeeper was then asked about Pulisic who might be his next adversary from the spot.

“In which direction does Pulisic take penalties? I won’t tell you,” laughs Sommer.

“We’ll see, penalties are certainly important because they could also decide a Derby.

“I’ll prepare for the spot kicks, good decisions and timing are definitely needed. Hopefully, we won’t have penalties against us though.”

The Inter custodian also tacked the topic of the increasingly packed schedule and its effect on the players’ well-being.

“It’s a major topic. I think the most important thing is the health of the players.

“A few years ago you could play the whole season almost always with the same players. Now you have 70 games.

“Something will change but we will see what will be the outcome of this season between the new Champions League format and the Club World Cup.

“Whoever has to decide will have to make the right decision.”
