Inter Milan Defensive Target Quashes January Exit Speculation: “I’d Like To Stay At Spezia Until June”

Heavily linked with a transfer to Inter Milan, Nicolo Bertola insists he wants to stay at Spezia until the end of the season.

During his recent interview with Il Secolo XIX, as reported by FCInterNews, the prodigious defender reiterated his desire to remain at Stadio Alberto Picco until June.

Inter have been hot on Bertola’s heels since the start of the new season.

With the youngster’s deal at Spezia running out next June, Beppe Marotta has smelled blood in the water.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri president is keen to revamp Simone Inzaghi’s defensive options next summer.

There’s a genuine probability that either Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij will leave Giuseppe Meazza at the end of the campaign.

Since the Serie A champions have extended the former’s contract until 2026, the Dutch ace looks like the main candidate to depart.

Therefore, Inter have set their sights on Bertola.

Despite his unwillingness to pledge his long-term future to Spezia, the 21-year-old doesn’t want to leave yet.

“I would like to stay until the end of the season, give the team a hand,” Bertola admitted.

“There are many things to fix, let’s see. I will always be grateful to Spezia, but I am too young to discuss it alone.

“I just hope that a decision comes that can satisfy everyone, I receive a lot of things from friends, it can only be pleasing.”

Speaking of a potential switch to Venezia, Bertola admitted his agents kept him in the dark.

“I wasn’t aware of a possible transfer to Venezia. I think my agents have discussed it.”

Bertola came through the Spezia academy before making his senior debut for the club in 2021.

However, he has only recently established himself as a permanent first-team fixture at Alberto Picco.

This season, he has amassed 12 appearances in Serie B, including 11 starts, testifying to his household status at the club.
