Inter Milan Captain Remains A Big Doubt For Serie A Clash Vs Atalanta
Lautaro Martinez remains a significant doubt to be fit for Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Atalanta this Friday.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri captain will continue to train individually for the next couple days.
Inter captain Martinez was not part of the squad for Saturday’s Serie A win over Lecce.
The Argentine had been in the lineup for the season opener against Genoa the previous weekend.
However, Martinez had picked up a muscle problem over the week. The problem was revealed to be an adductor elongation.
Martinez has been racing to get back to fitness following a late return to training.
The captain was the last Inter player to join up with the preseason training camp. This was because he had won the Copa America with Argentina, and was in action until mid-July.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did not risk Martinez against Lecce. The Argentine was not even on the bench for that match, Inter’s first at the San Siro this season.
However, it has been a big question mark as to whether or not the Inter captain could recover for Inter’s next match.
The Nerazzurri host Atalanta in their third Serie A match of the season. That will be their last match before the first international break of the campaign.
Lautaro Martinez A Big Doubt For Inter Vs Atalanta Clash
Martinez’s condition has improved compared to last Friday.
However, the Nerazzurri captain is still far from fully fit with just a few days to go before the team’s next match.
The Gazzetta report that Martinez will train individually today. And it will likely be the same story for tomorrow.
If the Inter captain does make a full return to training before the match against Atalanta, it will likely only be with a day or two to spare.
Therefore, even if Martinez is able to recover from his injury, there are significant doubts as to whether he can regain match-sharpness for the clash.
As such, it could be a place on the bench at best for the 27-year-old.
