Inter Milan Attack In “Crisis” As Superstar Duo’s Form Comes To A Screeching Halt
The stalling form of Inter Milan strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram has plunged the team’s attack into a “crisis.”
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter strikers Martinez and Thuram were absolutely key players for their team last season.
The Nerazzurri duo where a constant source of goals all season long. And, in Thuram’s case, there were also plenty of assists to go along with them.
But at the start of this campaign, nothing has come easy for either Martinez or Thuram.
Inter Attack In “Crisis” As Lautaro & Thuram Form Stalls
Inter captain Martinez has yet to score this season.
The Argentine has started four out of the Nerazzurri’s five Serie A matches. He was absent for their win over Lecce.
And Martinez also came off the bench against Manchester City in midweek, once again failing to score.
Meanwhile, Thuram had scored four goals in just three matches prior to the international break.
However, these have now dried up for the Frenchman.
Thuram has started against all of Monza, City, and yesterday evening, AC Milan, and not managed to score.
It would be unfair to single out Thuram or Martinez for yesterday’s lacklustre display in the derby against Milan.
Inter simply weren’t at the level required as a team.
Moreover, Martinez did provide the assist for Federico Dimarco’s first half goal. This was perhaps a sign that even when he is struggling, the 27-year-old has the quality to impact matches when he finds a pocket of space.
But in the penalty area, Inter simply did not give Milan much to worry about.
This creates a big worry for Inter, naturally. The Nerazzurri need their key strikers to start looking more incisive if they are to be able to rely on consistent goals.
