Inter Milan Aiming To Capitalize On Juventus Stumble Vs Empoli With Three Points In Serie A Clash Vs Monza
Inter Milan are aiming to take advantage of a surprise early draw between Juventus and Empoli by taking three points against Monza.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
It would be too early to definitively declare any favourites in the Serie A title race.
But for most observers, Inter and Juventus have marked themselves out as strong contenders.
In the case of the Nerazzurri, the fact that they not only won last season’s title in emphatic fashion but also kept their squad together means that it’s natural to be favourites.
Juventus, on the other hand, made big changes in the summer.
The Bianconeri had pushed Inter right through the winter last season. But a February collapse in form saw them fall far behind.
Therefore, the Old Lady responded by changing coaches, with Max Allegri out the door and Thiago Motta replacing him.
Juventus also made a raft of big money signings in the summer to try and catch up with Inter.
Inter Keen To Capitalize On Juventus Stumble Vs Empoli With Win Vs Monza
Heading into the international break, Inter and Juventus were both on seven points.
The Nerazzurri’s performances had largely suggested that they are ready for another high-flying season in the league, despite an opening day draw away to Genoa.
Meanwhile, early signs for Motta’s Juventus team is that they can get results week in, week out.
But yesterday, the Bianconeri experienced perhaps their first real setback in Serie A under Motta.
Juventus had drawn with Roma before the break, But considering the quality of the opposition that was hardly a shock result.
Yesterday’s failure to beat Empoli, though, was a different story. A limp, unconvincing performance showed how far Juventus have to go under Motta.
And Inter can seize the initiative this evening.
The Nerazzurri will be pushing for a third straight win away in Monza.
And a victory would take Inter two points clear of Juventus at the top of the table.
It’s obviously far too early into the campaign to see a slender advantage like that as overly significant in the title race.
But it would mark the first time this season that Inter have an advantage to hold onto over their Derby d’Italia rivals.
With matches against Manchester City and AC Milan to come, that could be a very big boost for Inter.
