Inter Milan & AC Milan Still Deciding Between Purchasing San Siro Or Building New Stadiums Elsewhere
Inter Milan and AC Milan are still deciding between purchasing the San Siro and building new stadiums outside of Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the clubs were annoyed with a recent statement from the city of Milan downplaying the option of new stadiums.
The next few weeks are likely to be decisive as far as the future of Inter and Milan’s stadium situation.
Last month, the clubs received the plans of architectural firm WeBuild to renovate the San Siro.
Milan Mayor Beppe Sala hopes that these proposed renovations will make the iconic sufficient to the clubs’ financial needs and convince them to stay in it.
However, in the background Inter and Milan have also been pursuing alternative plans.
The Nerazzurri are pursuing the idea of building a stadium in Rozzano, where they are laying the groundwork for a feasibility study.
Meanwhile, the Rossoneri have already purchased the land for a prospective new stadium in San Donato.
Inter & AC Milan Still Deciding Between San Siro & New Stadium
Yesterday, the municipality of Milan released a statement regarding the San Siro situation.
The municipality announced that there is a possibility of Inter and Milan purchasing the iconic stadium.
Historically, the two clubs have just rented the new stadium.
Actually owning the San Siro would certainly be important for Inter and Milan staying. It would be crucial for monetizing the stadium to the greatest degree.
Therefore, the strategy of Sala and the municipality of Milan seems clear.
They hope that between proposed renovations and the offer of selling the stadium, they can convince Inter and Milan to reverse course on building new stadiums, and stay in the San Siro.
But according to the Corriere, the clubs did not appreciate that the recent statement by the municipality seemed to paint a picture without the possibility of building elsewhere.
Inter and Milan have both worked extensively on the possibility of building new stadiums elsewhere.
Therefore, for both clubs those options are very much on the table.
For the time being, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are continuing to analyze WeBuild’s San Siro plans. They have yet to make a final decision.
