Inter Miami Owner Breaks Silence on Reuniting Lionel Messi and Neymar
Former Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi reunited with familiar faces at Inter Miami, joining Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. Now, another potential reunion could be on the horizon.
Messi and Neymar previously teamed up at Barcelona and PSG, sparking speculation about a possible third chapter in their careers. Neymar’s future remains uncertain after the 32-year-old Brazilian was sidelined for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.
This comes shortly after his year-long recovery from an ACL tear. With reports suggesting Al-Hilal may consider terminating his contract, which expires in the summer, Neymar has been linked to several clubs, including Messi’s Inter Miami and his former team, Santos.
Inter Miami owner opens up about recruiting Neymar
During the FIFA Club World Cup draw, Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas shared that he’s intrigued by the idea of reuniting Neymar with his former Barcelona teammates, Messi and Suárez.
“The key word is if he were to become available,” Mas told GIVEMESPORT. “He is an Al-Hilal player now. He’s not available to us. I have always said we aspire to bring great players to our team. We have a lot of roster limitations and restrictions, but we have an unlimited budget.
“We are aspirational. If there is ever a chance to bring the calibre of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn’t depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here.”
Neymar recently spoke about his future during the official launch of Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2024 World Cup, stating that he is still happy at Al-Hilal.
“The opportunity to play here and live in a country like this is very important for people,” Neymar said. “That’s why I always say that I was very well received here.
“I’m very happy and I’m sure it will only get better. I’m sure other stars will come here. I believe that many will have the opportunity to come here, and I think that everyone should have the opportunity to experience what I have experienced here.”
