Insider Reveals Red Wings Trade Target
Everyone loves to go shopping.
Given that Christmas just happened, it's tough to think of shopping in any capacity -- unless you are a hockey team like the Detroit Red Wings.
Before Christmas, things were spiraling for the Red Wings. They have a 5-1 record since Todd McLellan took over behind the bench. A new coach does not cure everything that ails a team.
Despite the team having a new captain steering the ship, they are still looking to add crewmates.
According to his latest written 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman knows who the Red Wings want from the Buffalo Sabres roster.

Written under his 15th thought, Friedman reveals, "I believe the Buffalo player the Red Wings were (are?) looking at is Dylan Cozens."
For those who don't know, Cozens is a 23-year-old center with the Sabres. He was drafted seventh overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and is in the second year of a seven-year contract that pays him $7.1 million a season.
My Take
The Red Wings targeting a center makes more than a little bit of sense. After Dylan Larkin, a rotating cast of characters competes for the center position on the remaining three lines.
The potential acquisition of Cozens would give them a legitimate second-line center.
He has scored 20 points in 40 games this year, averaging 17:23 per game. Cozens is still trying to live up to the standard he set for himself two years ago when he scored 68 points in 81 games.
Although he might not be a perfect fit for the Red Wings, he would certainly check off many boxes. Despite his age, he's played over 300 games.
If this is who the Red Wings are shopping for, that's not a bad way to spend their time (and assets) after Christmas.
