Insider Believes Star Defensemen Blocked Trade To Columbus
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Jacob Trouba blocked a deal to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He brought this up on his most recent episode of 32 Thoughts the Podcast.

Yes, that's right. The Blue Jackets were the team that were deemed the front-runners for Trouba. GM Don Waddell and New York Rangers GM Chris Drury had a deal in place. However, when it was presented to Trouba, he blocked it.
Due to his no-trade clause (NTC), he had the right to refuse to accept the deal, which forced the Rangers to look elsewhere.

Ultimately, Trouba agreed to waive his NTC and accepted a trade to the Ducks.
Friedman also mentioned that there was no guarantee that Trouba would have made it to Columbus if he were placed on waivers. Since they weren't in the bottom three on the wire.

Regardless, the Blue Jackets have taken some big steps in the right direction over the last few weeks. Of course, adding Trouba would have strengthened their blue line even more. However, now they will need to look elsewhere if they want to add more top-end talent.
