Injury Worries & Finishing Woes Cause Problems For First-Choice Inter Milan Attack
Fitness worries for Marcus Thuram and finishing woes for Lautaro Martinez raise one or two questions about Inter Milan’s attack.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi went with his two first-choice forwards yesterday against Atalanta in the Supercoppa Italiana.
The Nerazzurri coach selected his strongest available starting eleven overall.
Therefore, there was no doubt that it would be Thuram and Martinez leading the line.
One Or Two Worries About Marcus Thuram & Lautaro Martinez
France international striker Thuram saw out the first half without any problems.
However, the 27-year-old had to come off during the second half. This was the result of an injury concern, as he was feeling some stiffness in his adductor.
Meanwhile, Inter captain Martinez tried to follow up his goal against Cagliari from last weekend by finding the back of the net once again.
Having ended his goal drought, it will be important for the Argentine to try and get back to scoring at a relentless pace.
But Martinez was unable to do so yesterday.
The Nerazzurri captain had some good chances. But he failed to convert, partly due to the outstanding efforts of Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi.
