Injured Barcelona midfielder rejoins group training post-ACL recovery
FC Barcelona had a particularly bad 2023-24 season in terms of injuries. The Catalans saw two of their important players, Gavi and Alejandro Balde, suffered long-term injuries, while other important players like Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Frenkie de Jong, and Pedri also had to miss several games due to injuries.
It has been almost a year since Gavi suffered his ACL tear while playing for the Spanish national team against Georgia. He had to undergo surgery to recover from this injury and has been working on his recovery process since November 2023. He was expected to return to training with the team today.
Now, as SPORT has reported, he has reached an important milestone in his recovery as he completed a part of the training session with the rest of the team. The midfielder encountered no problems in this training session and completed the training session normally.
In this training session, the midfielder was seen sprinting and running forward and sideways. He trained with his characteristic intensity and left Flick and the whole group surprised with his participation.
Having returned to training with the team, Gavi is now looking to make his full return to the playing field by the month of October. However, both the club and the player’s entourage will prioritise his return to the pitch only when he is 100% fit to avoid any relapses and to ensure this traumatic injury does not have any long term impact on the player.
Flick had already expressed his readiness to wait till the midfielder returns to full fitness before using him on the pitch. For now, Gavi is strictly following the plans made by Barcelona, and is going through all the required stages of his recovery to recover in a highly satisfactory way.
As things stand, Gavi can return to availability in October. Still, he will have a gradual return to full action and will be used minimally in the first few weeks after his return.
