Injured Barcelona midfield star will miss Champions League clash vs Atalanta – report
Dani Olmo has had a stop-start season following his return to Barcelona after a decade. Registration issues and injury problems have limited his involvement considerably, restricting him to 18 appearances, in which he has six goals and three assists.
The 26-year-old is currently sidelined with a calf strain which he sustained last week during the Getafe clash.
Expected to be out for ten days, Olmo has been ruled out of tomorrow’s La Liga encounter vs. Valencia after he already missed the UEFA Champions League encounter against Benfica earlier in the week.
Olmo will not return vs Atalanta either
There were hopes that the Spanish attacking midfielder could return in time to face Atalanta in the final league phase game of the UCL next week.
However, according to RAC1, that is no longer possible with Olmo now said to be out of the contest against the Serie A giants as well.
Indeed, Barcelona will face off against last season’s UEFA Europa League champions without Olmo.
As things stand, his return is expected to happen either against Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on February 2 or the subsequent game against Valencia in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.
It is understandable that Barcelona are taking a cautious approach with Olmo considering that he has had a history of muscle injuries throughout his career.
For now, Olmo will be out of tomorrow’s clash against Valencia while his return vs. Atalanta is also ruled out. Whether he comes back against Alaves or fans have to wait for a few more days after that to see him back in action remains to be seen.
