The last few days have been quite difficult for the FC Barcelona captain and starting goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. First, he had to face a lot of criticism for his mistakes and subpar performance in the UEFA Champions League match against Monaco.

Then, tragedy struck the German during the match against Villarreal, as he tore his patellar tendon of the right leg and had to undergo surgery to recover from this issue. The club later announced that this medical intervention had taken place successfully, and thus the German has started his recovery process.

As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the goalkeeper undertook his first public interaction after his surgery today, as he took to his social media to thank everyone who had supported him in such a difficult time.

His message on Instagram and other social networks went as: “I feel truly grateful to all the Barça fans, teammates, rivals, clubs, and friends for the support and love you’ve shown me since Sunday.”

The German shot-stopper went on to thank the Villarreal fans for their conduct at the time of this injury: “I want to thank the Villarreal supporters for their respect displayed in the stadium, it means a lot to me.”

The last part of Ter Stegen’s post revealed his current feelings following such a traumatic turn of events: “I feel positive and strong, now I focus on my recovery. Thank you!”

There is no doubt that the German goalkeeper will be missed a lot in the Barcelona goal, as he is expected to miss the rest of the season after his surgery. Hopefully, he will come back even stronger from such an ordeal.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are already looking at options for short-term and long-term replacements for the German goalkeeper in their squad. But for the upcoming match, Inaki Pena will take the German’s place between the sticks.
