‘Inhumane’: Mother of Liverpool star reacts to SHOCKING Sunday scenes

The mother of Alexis Mac Allister has reacted to shocking scenes at the Copa America final on Sunday. She was in the middle of it all.

The Copa America 2024 final was a disaster for organisers Conmebol. Thousands made their way into the stadium without tickets - including some who snuck in through the ventilation system - and that forced a halt on fans entering.

Which meant thousands more were stuck at the gates despite having valid tickets. They were told the stadium was ‘at capacity’ and it certainly was. Not that the reasoning will have sat well with those unable to use the tickets they paid for.

It was all chaos and virtually every at the ground was involved in it. That included the families of certain players, of which Alexis Mac Allister was one.

His mother was in the middle of it all, prompting the player to leave the dressing room to find her and ‘fix’ the situation. Here’s what his mum had to say, per ESPN:

"Alexis had to leave the locker room to help us get in because he was worried. I thought [the game] couldn't continue. I thought the game wouldn't be played because if the players thought they would resolve this, impossible that it would be played. It was inhumane. We are okay."

It’s a completely ridiculous situation. The head of the Colombian FA even fell foul of things, finding himself arrested for allegedly punching a police officer.

Liverpool fans will hardly be shocked, though. Go back just two years and there were similar scenes at the Champions League final that saw horrendous organisation leave thousands of ticketed fans in dangerous situations outside the ground.

It’s becoming more common, it feels, that major events in football are marred by incompetence. That was certainly the case on Sunday.
