What INEOS signing did in dying embers of LFC draw was ‘world-class’, Amorim will be delighted
After the youngster was ruled out of the first four months of the campaign with a metatarsal injury, Manchester United are carefully managing Leny Yoro’s game time.
Since making his official debut in a 2-0 away defeat to Arsenal on December 4, Yoro has made three starts in all competitions under Ruben Amorim, having been unavailable for the final months of Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
Even amidst the side’s ever-turbulent form, he’s been one undeniable bright spark. Take his display against Tottenham Hotspur, for example; United ultimately lost 4-3 in the action-packed Carabao Cup tie, but the 19-year-old recorded a 92 per cent passing accuracy, won six duels and won three tackles.
He also made three clearances and three interceptions, prompting StatmanDave to hail his tremendous potential.
What Yoro did in final minutes of Anfield contest was ‘world-class’
Last night, Yoro was called upon from the bench to see out the final stages of United’s lively clash with Liverpool at Anfield. He replaced senior counterpart Matthijs de Ligt in the 83rd minute to slot in alongside Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire in the back three.
In the dying embers, a fresh-legged Darwin Nunez had carried the ball on the counter and was bursting into the box, with all signs pointing towards him troubling – and potentially scoring past – Andre Onana. That was until Yoro intervened, though, as the defender came to Onana’s rescue with a last-ditch, perfectly executed sliding tackle in the area to completely kill off Liverpool’s attack.
He didn’t stop there, either. The starlet then went on a driving run himself in hopes of quickly creating a United winner, showing the exact kind of unrelenting determination fans had been crying out for.
“Yoro has put in a world-class tackle and now he’s sprinting into the Liverpool area looking to get a winner. Breathless end to this,” said Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst on X/Twitter.
