Igor Shesterkin Vs. Connor Hellebuyck: A Clash Of The Titans
Igor Shesterkin will start tonight for the New York Rangers in what will be his toughest test yet. The Rangers are set to play a Winnipeg Jets team that is off to a historic 14-1 start.
For Shesterkin, he goes head-to-head with Connor Hellebuyck in what will be a true heavyweight matchup.
Hellebuyck currently leads the NHL with a 1.83 goals against average, .935 save percentage and three shutouts.
Meanwhile, Shesterkin has also been playing some phenomenal hockey. His 2.62 goals against average and .920 save percentage doesn't give Shesterkin justice for the way he’s been playing.
Throughout this season, the Rangers have relied on Shesterkin to win games as he continues to carry a big load.
Now, Hellebuyck comes into Madison Square Garden, with both goalies having a lot to prove.
The argument can be made that Shesterkin and Hellebuyck are the top two goalies in the NHL and there is not much you can say to counter that argument.
While this game won’t directly impact the Rangers superstar in terms of his future, Shesterkin is looking for a contract that will earn him upwards of $11 million per season and Hellebuyck currently is making an annual salary of $8.5 million.
A great way for Shesterkin to prove his worth even further is to beat the Vezina Trophy favorite and show that he is undoubtedly the best goalie in the world.
It will be an exciting game for other reasons as well, but all eyes should be glued to Shesterkin and Hellebuyck’s head-to-head matchup.
