Iginla, Kiprusoff, & Gaudreau Headline Flames Quarter-Century Teams

The NHL announced the Calgary Flames' quarter-century teams early Saturday morning, highlighting the careers of many of the franchise's best players over the past 25 years.

As expected, Hockey Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla led the Flames' first team, sharing the honors with Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk, plus the man who followed him as captain, Mark Giordano. Robyn Regehr and Miikka Kiprusoff round out Calgary's first team.

On the second team, current captain Mikael Backlund and fellow Swedes Rasmus Andersson and Jacob Markstrom were selected, along with Sean Monahan, Dion Phaneuf, and general manager Craig Conroy.

Interestingly, the Flames' first team is split even among those who played together. Iginla, Regehr, and Kiprusoff were all team members that reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2004.

Meanwhile, Gaudreau and Tkachuk were part of the club's last playoff series win in 2022, one season after Giordano departed after 15 years, serving the last seven as captain.

Regarding the second team, Conroy is the only player from the group to play in the 2004 Stanley Cup Final but spent parts of four seasons with Dion Phaneuf.

However, those connections don't run as deep as Monahan, Backlund, Andersson, and Markstrom, who all skated in that magical Game 7 win over the Dallas Stars in the 2022 playoffs.
