Hurricanes snag commitment from standout South Florida cornerback

A flurry of recent Miami Hurricanes football commitments continued Thursday with a significant one: Hollywood Chaminade Madonna cornerback Chris Ewald Jr.

Ewald chose UM after recent visits to the campuses of the Hurricanes and Georgia Bulldogs. He was previously committed to Michigan but opened up his recruiting early in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh left to coach the Los Angeles Chargers.

“I’m locked in,” Ewald tweeted above a picture of himself in a Hurricanes jersey.

247 Sports rates Ewald the 21st best cornerback and 169th best player overall in the 2025 class.

On.3 places him 20th among cornerbacks and 163rd overall.

ESPN rates him 274th among all 2025 recruits.

Ewald, who stands 5-11, had 45 tackles, two interceptions and 20 pass deflections for Chaminade-Madonna last season.

He joins Alabama-based three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt and Miami Central four-star safety Amari Wallace as defensive backs in UM’s 2025 class.

The Canes are now up to 13 non-binding commitments for 2025 after landing seven in the past three weeks. On.3 ranks UM’s class 17th in the country.
