The Carolina Hurricanes were forced to make a pitstop about halfway home on Saturday morning after their three-game California road trip.

The Hurricanes, fresh off a 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night, took off on a Swift Air charter flight from Long Beach International Airport to head back to the East Coast. About halfway home, the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Tulsa, Oklahoma, around 4 a.m. Saturday morning after a “noxious” smell filled the cabin, according to the Associated Press.

Mike Sundheim, the Hurricanes’ vice president of communications, was on the flight and said that passengers “could smell something similar to burning plastic.”

Technicians on the ground in Tulsa replaced a malfunctioning air data computer in the plane, which took off again to complete its journey back to North Carolina after about a two hour delay.

There were no injuries involved in the incident, and Swift Air has not yet commented on the incident.

The Hurricanes’ win against the Ducks on Friday marked their first victory in three games. They currently hold a 13-11 record, which puts them in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division.
